Abstract
Goat which was known as “Wet nurse of infant” in the United
Kingdom and “Poor man‘s cow” in India was the first animal to be
domesticated. Among livestock sector, goat farming is one of the important
livelihood options for unprivileged sections namely landless, small and
marginal farmers. Goat population in India is more than 135 million, which
accounts to 26% of the total livestock population. Goat meat (chevon) is one
of the preferred meat in India which accounts for more than 16% of total
meat production.
