Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture & Forestry, Solan

Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, was established on 1st December, 1985 with the objective to promote education, research and extension education in the fields of Horticulture, Forestry and allied disciplines. Late Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first Chief Minister and the architect of Himachal Pradesh perceived the importance of Horticulture and Forestry to develop and improve the State economy which led to the establishment of this University. Its history lies in erstwhile Himachal Agricultural College, Solan, established in 1962 and affiliated to the Panjab University. It became one of the campuses of Agriculture Complex of Himachal Pradesh University on its formation in 1970. Consequent upon the establishment of Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in 1978, this campus became its Horticulture Complex and finally in 1985, assumed the status of a State University, being the only University in the country engaged exclusively in teaching, research and extension in Horticulture and Forestry. The University is located at Nauni in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh, 13 km from Solan on Solan-Rajgarh Road, at an elevation of 1300 metres above mean sea level. Solan town is situated on national highway (NH-22) and is well connected by train and bus services. The University has four constituent colleges, out of which, two are located at the main campus Nauni, one for horticulture and the other for forestry, having 9 and 7 departments, respectively. The third College i.e., College of Horticulture & Forestry is located at Neri in Hamirpur District on Nadaun-Hamirpur state highway, about 6 Km from Hamirpur town and is well connected with bus service. The college offers three Undergraduate Degree Programmes i.e. BSc (Hons.) Horticulture, BSc (Hons.) Forestry and B. Tech. Biotechnology and MSc degree programme in a few subjects. The fourth college i.e. College of Horticulture and Forestry, Thunag (Mandi) is located at Thunag District Mandi. This college offer BSc (Hons.) Horticulture and BSc (Hons.) Forestry degree programme. In addition, there are five Regional Research Stations, 12 Satellite Stations and five Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) situated in different zones of the State.

    University Students’ Perceptions about Online Employment Sites in Himachal Pradesh Project Report

    ABSTRACT Online employment sites allow any prospective candidates to obtain a satisfying view of his/her future carrier possibility. Access to past and current job opening allows university student to determine how their current academic pursuits match the different jobs that they could possibly under take in future. In the present study an attempt has been made to study the university students’ perceptions about employment sites. Further variations in the perceptions of students’ of online employment sites as per demographic variables were studied. For the present study 100 universities students of different universities in including Dr. YS Parmar, HPU, Central University, Shoolini university and Abhilashi university have been the participant of study in Himachal Pradesh. And from each university 20 students were selected through quota sampling out of which 10 were males and 10 were females. The finding revealed that majority of respondents agreed to the statement on user friendliness, trust, education, information and effectiveness of employment sites further it was also observed that students neither get response from employer after submitting online employment sites nor they get nay help for interviews. Also there is no facility to go through employer reviews. Naukari.com has been ranked the most reliable online employment sites by the university students followed by Monster.com and LinkdIn. It is suggested that there should be information campaigns because there is a lack of information among students regarding online employment sites.

    A STUDY OF CONSUMER BUYING BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS GREEN PRODUCTS IN SHIMLA TOWN OF HIMACHAL PRADESH PROJECT REPORT

    ABSTRACT Green product in India has been growing significantly due to the increased interest in the environment. Consumer today is increasingly “thinking green” and is willing to pay more for environmentally friendly products. The present study is conducted to study the consumer buying behaviour towards the green product and environmental beliefs of consumers in Shimla town of Himachal Pradesh. The study was conducted on 60 respondents living in the town. The findings revealed that majority of respondents are aware of the green products. It was also noted that main source of information that created awareness about green products was television followed by magazines and newspapers. Consumer are willing to pay more for green products due to feeling of environmental protection responsibility while some have also cited high level of satisfaction as the reasons. The major factor that strongly influenced the consumers buying behaviour of green products is the product followed by package, promotion and place. Many consumers have attributed non availability and expensiveness of products reasons restricting purchase of the green products. Consumers are found to be highly concerned with the impact of global climate change on the environment and their future generations. Thus the efforts should be made by the companies to spread the awareness about the benefits of the green products and the marketers should adopt robust marketing strategies and tactics to influence the buying behaviour of the consumers.

    ABSTRACT The concerned study on A Perceptual Study of Web Entrepreneurs towards Digital Marketing in Solan District of Himachal Pradesh has mainly explored to study the marketing activities undertaken by web entrepreneurs and marketing problems faced by them. It has highlighted the awareness level of web entrepreneurs towards digital marketing to bring web transparency in the web business. This study is conducted to analyze the different marketing channels involved in digital marketing for web entrepreneurs. Further the study has also attempted to seek various suggestive measures from web entrepreneurs to improve the web business worldwide. The opinions of the web entrepreneurs were inclined upon the growth and development of digital marketing as well as web business. It was commonly agreed that web entrepreneurship through digital marketing may result in bringing efficiency and web effectiveness. It was noted that by improving cyber security, bringing time oriented efficiency may bring out a positive change in the web business. It was observed that the problems faced by web entrepreneurs while adopting or using digital marketing may remove by using the appropriate digital marketing strategies in web business. So, the digital marketing is the effective tool for the web entrepreneurs. There is a need to provide transparent and good services to the consumer before and after purchase through digital marketing.

    A STUDY ON QUALITY OF WORK LIFE OF THE EMPLOYEES OF SJVN LTD SHIMLA (HP). Project Report

    ABSTRACT Quality of work life denotes all the organizational inputs which aim at the employees’ satisfaction and enhancing organizational effectiveness. Quality of Work Life (QWL) has become one of the most important issues these days in every organization. The purpose of study is to study the quality of work life of the employees of the SJVN LTD. The study was conducted with the objectives to find out the measures adopted by the organization to motivate their employees, how involved and committed the employees are with respect to their line at work and to find the level of satisfaction regarding the working conditions prevailing in the organization. A structured questionnaire was prepared for the present study. The information collected from the sample of 60 respondents was analyzed. The main finding of the study clearly shows that the employees of different age group with different salary package had their own views with respect to quality of work life of the organization. Most of the employees think that the bonus and incentives provided by the organization is the major factor to motivate them. Majority of the employees were involved and committed to their work because of the job security and the sense of belongingness towards the organization. Overall majority of the employees found the working conditions of the organization satisfactory. Finally it can be concluded that the quality of work life of the employee of SJVNL LTD is employee oriented. It was further suggested that there must be proper training facilities provided to the employees so that efficiency of the employees can be improved.

    A STUDY ON CUSTOMER BEHAVIOR WITH RESPECT TO THE PURCHASE OF SMART PHONES AT SOLAN TOWN (HP) Project Report

    Abstract Consumer behaviour is the study of the processes involved when individuals or groups select, purchase, use or dispose of products, services, idea or experiences. Consumer behaviour focuses on how individuals make decisions to spend their available resources on consumption related items. The present study entitled “To study the customer behaviour with respect to the purchase of Smart Phones (A study conducted in Solan Town of HP)” was carried out in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh to understand the factor which effect consumer decision while selecting or purchase of a smartphone, and to study the effect on the income of the retailers after the introduction of smart phones. . A structured questionnaire was prepared for the present study. The information collected from the sample of 80 respondents was analyzed. The study suggested that services, performance and brand were the factors that affected purchase decision of respondents. The study also showed that people constantly switch from one brand to another because of the quality, reliability and availability of various brands in the Market. The study also showed that introduction of new smart phones resulted in positive increase in business income of the Retailers. Finally it can be concluded that smart phones were now purchased because of necessity and as a trend in the society.

    FARMERS’ PERCEPTION OF BRANDED TOMATO SEEDS: A STUDY OF RAJGARH TEHSIL IN DISTRICT SIRMAUR (HP) Project Report

    Abstract Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy. The success of farming is mainly dependent on availability of quality seeds and planting materials. A survey on opinion, awareness and attitude towards branded seeds by farmers was conducted in the area of Rajgarh tehsil, to study perception of farmers with objectives to determine the awareness among farmers along with the source giving information about branded seeds. To study the factor affecting the purchase of tomato hybrid seeds and mode of purchase, satisfaction of farmers from the use of branded seeds. To fulfill the objectives, a sample of 100 farmers was selected using the quota sampling technique. Study shows that a majority of farmers uses branded hybrid seeds in their fields. All of the farmers are aware of branded seeds of tomato. Farmers are more concerned about quality and authentication, therefore farmers purchase branded seeds from retailer. Himsona, Red Gold and abhinand these three are the most preferred brands of tomato seeds used by the farmers in the studying area. The major factors affecting the purchase of hybrid seeds are germination, market value of produce and disease resistance. Study reveals that the farmers were less satisfied with the prices of branded seeds as they were very costly.

    ABSTRACT Consumer behavior is the study of individuals, groups, or organizations and the ways they use to find, acquire, and consume of products, services, experiences, or ideas to satisfy needs. Consumer buying behavior refers to those activities of persons involved specifically in buying and using economic goods and services. It includes mental as well as physical actions. The present study was conducted with the objective to study the customer’s opinion and preference towards popular brands of personal care, the effect of brand on customer’s buying behavior and brand loyalty and the factors that restrict the customer’s from switching over to other products. A structured questionnaire was prepared for the present study. The information collected from the sample of 100 respondents has been analyzed by applying percentage method, Arithmetic Mean, Standard Deviations. The finding of the study show that majority of the customers’ prefer buying branded products and give priority the quality of the products. The trustworthiness was due to the quality of the product. Therefore it can be concluded that majority of respondents prefer buying branded products and give priority to quality.

    Farmers’ Perceptions On Production And Marketing Of Medicinal And Aromatic Plants In Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh Project Report

    ABSTRACT Medicinal and Aromatic Plants played a significant role in the subsistence economy of the people of Himachal Pradesh, especially those living in the rugged and impoverished hills, mountains and rural interiors. The collection, simple processing and trading of medicinal plants contribute significantly to the cash income of the poor and women in this region. There is a growing demand for M&APs at the global level. The export of M&APs brings nominal money to the farmers at the local level. Fair benefit from the trade has not been initiated yet. The challenging problem prospecting is not only to make a comprehensive inventory of M&APs, but also to address the social, economic and environmental issues in an integrated approach. A proper study of the market and up-to-date market information can make the trade a highly profitable option while increasing the livelihood options and diversifying the portfolio of products. For this research, sample size of 60 farmers of Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh was taken. A structured questionnaire was prepared for the present study. Findings revealed that the level of awareness on production and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants among the farmers was moderate. Even for the moderate usage, respondents were enjoying some benefits like better income and better market information. This highlights the scope of production and marketing of medicinal and aromatic plants highly useful in the coming future.
