India possesses 136 million goat and stands 2^^ in the world in goat population, which occupy an important place in Indian farm economy mainly in meeting the demands for meat In recent times laboratory production of embryos is drawing keen attention because of its application in emerging technologies like cloning and transgenic animal production apart from embryo transfer. With large number of oocytes, goat serves as a suitable experimental model in embryo transfer technology, which has been developed for maximum exploitation of superior genetic material from female. Since the cost of production of embryos is very high, several efforts are being made by various research workers to economize the production by way of replacing the expensive components of culture media with less expensive ones. In order to reduce the cost of technology; conventionally used fetal bovine serum, an expensive component and hormones are being successfully replaced with steer serum, cow serum or follicular fluid (Gupta et al., 2001). Follicular fluid is primarily the transudate of plasma that contains specific constituents such as steroids, glycosaminoglycans and many other metabolites synthesized by the cells of the follicle wall (Wise, 1987). Recent studies have claimed the beneficial effects of follicular fluid in media used in IVM, subsequent fertilization (IVF) and development of pig (Naito, 1988), sheep (Sun et al., 1994) and cow (Kim et al., 1996) embryos.en_US
