Abstract
GASCO, growth performance, acreage response, customer retention,

The study on “Growth performance and acreage response of sesame seeds in
Junagadh district” was undertaken to measure the objectives of to analyze the growth
performance and acreage response of sesame crop, examine the resource use efficiency,
factor determining the customer retention of GASCO and finding price volatility of
sesame produce. The study was carried out in four talukas (Junagadh, Vanthali,
Manavadar and Bhesan) of Junagadh district. For the study, Multistage sampling
technique was adopted. Total 120 farmers using sesame seed of GASCO was selected
from the Junagadh district. Exponential function or the semi-log equation and
Nerlovian adjustment lagged model was used to estimate growth performance and
acreage response of sesame crop. Cobb-Douglas production function was used to
analyze resource use efficiency of sesame cultivation. Factor analysis was used to
finding factors which are responsible for retention of GASCO seeds. Volatility of price
of sesame was analyzed by price volatility. Results revealed that the area, production
and yield of sesame crop was continuously decreasing from year 1997-98 to 2018-19.
Yield was increasing during the period II (2008-09 to 2018-19). In the case of acreage
response of sesame, the lagged area played significant role in area of sesame. The
lagged price, price risk, lagged yield, yield risk and rainfall were non-significant. Factor
analysis exposed that there are ten factors that collectively accounted in the farmers’
response. In price volatility, highest price volatility was found in pick period. Lower
price volatility was found in lean period. The overall price volatility was found 30.51
per cent during of period 2002-20
