Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    Mango with many versatile properties has naturally found application for processing into various products unparalleled by any other fruit. It is however estimated that 0.22% of mangoes produced in the world is only utilized for processing. Green mangoes are processed into traditional products like pickle, brine stock and chutney. Instant mango pickle, drumdried green mango powder, production of raw mango beverage base is the new developments.

    India produces 12% of the world’s fruits and vegetables. The most important fruits grown in the country include Mango, Banana, Guava, Papaya and Sapota and Vegetables include Tomato, Brinjal, cauliflower, cabbage, and okra. The leading fruits and vegetable growing states in the country are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar, Haryana and Punjab. In this study, the productivity of fruits and vegetables in Gujarat has been analysed apart from documentation of export procedures.

    “RATIONALIZATION OF MILK DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM IN WESTERN AHMEDABAD CITY

    India is one of the largest producers of milk with the production of 118 million tons in 2009-10 and with the growth rate of around 4% and has the contribution of around 17-18 % in the world milk production (688 million tons). In India’s total milk production, dairy co-operative procures around 9.2 million tonnes of milk with the steady growth rate of 9.7%. This indicates, co-operative sector’s contribution is around 8-9 % of total milk production. Presently organized dairy sectors contributes about 18-20 %, where as rest have contributed by unorganized Sector. The major players in Ahmadabad city’s milk market are Uttam, Best, Vimal, Gayatri, Amul etc. Among these, Amul has more than 90 % of milk market and rest is held by others.

    Adequate, timely and hassle free institutional credit is sine qua none for the development of any sector. Growing income, education and changing pattern of life style in rural areas which is in line of urban pattern has arrested attention of many national and transnational agencies. As a result, these agencies are now envisaging a big market for their products, including credit, in the rural India. HDFC bank is also exploring business prospect in the rural areas. The bank has its immense financial contribution to Indian urban areas, but has not yet recognized the rural potential. In view of this, the HDFC bank assigned the project entitled “Rural Banking in Gujarat”. Bharuch district was selected for the purpose.     The project entitled “To Develop Marketing Strategy to Gain 20% of Market Share of Amul chocolate In Vadodara City” was undertaken through primary market survey. The data were collected from Vadodara City during 1st January to 30th April 2010. As we know that Amul is very big brand in the industry, it has leadership in products like Milk, Butters and Cheese. Amul is having its footsteps in chocolate industry also, but its presence is very less as compared to other brands in Vadodara city. Chocolate industry is having very few numbers of players, but stiff competition is prevailed among them. With the help of this research, company can find out its weak points of its chocolates business and can increase its market share through rectifying the mistakes. Consumers trust the brand “Amul”, but they will accept its chocolates if effective & prompt strategies are applied. Consumer research deals with consumers & their problems and solution to that problem. This research deals to know about the consumers need, and expectation levels regarding Amul chocolate as compared to their competitors, Cadbury chocolate and Nestle chocolate.
