Abstract
India is one of the largest producers of milk with the production of 118 million tons in 2009-10 and with the growth rate of around 4% and has the contribution of around 17-18 % in the world milk production (688 million tons). In India’s total milk production, dairy co-operative procures around 9.2 million tonnes of milk with the steady growth rate of 9.7%. This indicates, co-operative sector’s contribution is around 8-9 % of total milk production. Presently organized dairy sectors contributes about 18-20 %, where as rest have contributed by unorganized Sector. The major players in Ahmadabad city’s milk market are Uttam, Best, Vimal, Gayatri, Amul etc. Among these, Amul has more than 90 % of milk market and rest is held by others.
