    KNOWLEDGE AND ADOPTION ON CHEMICAL FERTILIZERS AND PESTICIDE BY COLE CROPS GROWERS IN MEERUT DISTRICT OF UTTAR PRADESH

    The present study was carried out during the year 2017-2018, in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh. It was observed that 47.50 percent cole crops growers belonged to medium age group, 86.25 percent cole crops growers were educated, 76.00 percent respondents were belong to backward caste, 96.25 percent respondents were male, 95.00 percent married, 60.00 percent living in nuclear family system, 56.25 percent having medium size of family, 91.25 percent having pakka house, 41.25 percent cole crops growers were belonged to small farmers categories, 82.50 percent cole crops growers main occupation was agriculture, 65.00 percent growers were having medium family resources, 35.00 percent having 3-4 animals, 67.50 percent had pakka shed for animals, 77.50 percent growers having electric tube well, 20.00 percent growers were not participated in any organizational activity, 93.75 percent were using television as a communication resource and it is the most using communication resource, 21.25 percent having electricity connection at home as well as farm, 35.00 percent using 3-4 numbers of transport facilities, 70.00 percent cole crops growers annual income was above Rs. One lakh and 46.25 percent cole crops growers were having fair level of knowledge in cole crops cultivation. The cole crops growers were having highest mean percent score value in name of fertilizer and ranked in first, the cole crops growers were having least mean percent score value in weed management and ranked in XIV. The adoption level was found higher in fertilizer management. Its mean percent score value was 58.12 and ranked in first. The least adoption level was found in seed treatment. Its mean percent score value was 42.50 and ranked in XIV. The highest technological gap between knowledge level and adoption level was found in mode of application i.e. 12.50 percent, the lowest gap was found in improved varieties i.e. 02.50 percent. The overall average gap was found 06.61 percent in package of practices of cole crops cultivation. Most important constraints of cole crops grower’s high price of hybrid seeds, fertilizers and chemicals for cultivation of cole crops crop, Poor confidence in recommended newly technology, Inadequate extension activities were conducted by the Govt. Department, Insufficient demonstration were conducted at farmer’s field, There is no cooperative society to sale cole crops at Govt. rate etc.

    “Knowledge Gap and Constraints Analysis of Sugarcane Production Technology in Western Uttar Pradesh”

    The present investigation entitled in “Knowledge gap and constraints analysis of sugarcane production technology in Western Uttar Pradesh” was conducted with the help of the specific objectives. The total sample size was 160 for the study. The results of the study depicted that the majority of the respondents (45.63%) belonged to old age group ranging above 55 years. The majority of the (32.50%) of the total respondent are educated up to High School. Maximum (65.00%) respondents were belongs to other backward caste. The majority of respondents (73.75%) were belonged to joint family system and interested for sugarcane cultivation. The maximum (56.25%) respondents of the sugarcane growers were having large size (above 4 members) of the family. The maximum (94.37%) sugarcane growers were having mixed type of house. Majority of respondents (51.25%) belong to marginal and small categories of land holding (2-4ha.) The maximum (88.12%) sugarcane growers have as their main occupation agriculture. All the respondents having mobile phone. Majority of 93.12 % sugarcane growers have cycle. All the respondents having khurpi, fawara, pruning secateurs. Majority of (40.62%) sugarcane growers are using tube well basis irrigation. Maximum (75.00%) respondents are not participating in any organization activity. Majority of (70.63%) respondents are belonging to the income group above Rs. 2 Lakh annual incomes. The majority of (68.13%) of the respondents belong to medium category of socio-economic status. The farmer’s preferred progressive farmer as a top most source of information and agro chemical distributor was secondary source of information and the maximum sugarcane growers were using Newspaper and T.V. as a mass media source of information. The highest percentage of knowledge gap was found under soil treatment (Biological treatments) in sugarcane cultivation. Majority of respondents (61.25%) possess good knowledge of various aspects of sugarcane production technology. Irrigation was the main problem of sugarcane growers in Western zone.
