The present investigation entitled “Effect of various concentrations of GA3 and NAA in cuttings of Hydrangea (Hydrangea macrophylla) under open and shade net conditions” was carried out at V.C.S.G., UUHF Bharsar during rainy season 2015-1016. The study consisted of 13 treatments having different concentrations of GA3 and NAA under two different conditions i.e open condition and shade net conditions. The treatments were replicated thrice in Randomized Complete Block Design. The result revealed that under open condition, minimum days taken for bud initiation (13.33), highest diameter of thickest sprout (14.13 mm) was found under T7 (150 ppm NAA). However root parameters such as number of primary root (19.96), diameter of thickest root (0.53mm) was found to be maximum in T12 (100 ppm GA3 + 100 ppm NAA) and minimum in T13 (Control). Maximum number of secondary root (12.36) was observed in the cuttings treated with 50 ppm NAA, i.e. T5. Under shade net condition, earliest days taken for first bud sprouting (9.43), maximum number of leaves per plant (12.76), number of shoots (2.03) and maximum (66.66%) survival per cent were recorded in T12 (100 ppm GA3 + 100 ppm NAA), whereas minimum for the above mentioned parameters were recorded in control. Maximum percentage of rooted cutting (66.66) and maximum average diameter of thickest root (0.55) was found best with the application of 200 ppm NAA (T8). Thus while considering the results alone for both the conditions it was found that in open conditions treatment of T7 (150 ppm NAA) is best, while for the shade net conditions application of T12 (100 ppm GA3 + 100 ppm NAA) is beneficial for the propagation of cuttings. While comparing both the conditions it can be concluded that shade net conditions are superior than the open conditions for the propagation of Hydrangea cuttings.
