Govinda; TANUVAS2, 3 - Diphosphoglycerate (2, 3-DPG) is an intermediary product in glucose metabolism in red blood cell (Benesch and Benesch, 1967).ArticleItem Open Access Certain reproductive traits of stall fed tellicherry goats in dry tract of Tamil Nadu(Indian J. Anim. Prod. Mgmt, 1992-10) Viswanathan, S.; Rao, R. Govinda; Mallikeswaran, K.; TANUVASGoats in nature are browsing based animals and are well known to be the of forests and gardens.ArticleItem Open Access Changes in the Plasma Calcium, Inorganic Phosphorus and Alkaline Phosphatase Activity During Different Periods of Force-Moulting(TANUVAS, 1985) Thangavel, A; Gomathi, V.S.; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASThe plasma alkaline phosphatase, calcium and phosphorus levels were estimated during different period of premoult, moult and postmoult periods. There was a significant rise in plasma alkaline phosphatase level during the period of force moulting and a fall at the end of moulting period with a gradual increase just before laying. The plasma calcium and inorganic phosphorus decreased significantly during force moult period and reached the premoult level at the time of on set of laying.ArticleItem Open Access The Chocie of a common chemical preservative for milk samples to estimate progesterone content in milk(Indian Veterinary Association, 1992-01) Chandrasekaran, S. Kannan; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASPregnancy, especially in dairy cattle, can he detected as early as twenty one days after the dog of insemination by the level progesterone present in milk.ArticleItem Open Access A Comparative Evaluation of the Acid Haematin Method of Haemoglobin Estlmatlon in Fowl Blood(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1981) Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASThe values of haemoglobin in poultry determined by various investigators ranged from as low as 6.56 g.% to as high as 18.6g.%. The variation may be due to physiological factors such as age, sex, nutritional and environmental factors (Bankowski, 1942) and also due to the variations in the methods of determination (Sturkie, 1965).ArticleItem Open Access Comparative Studies On Feeding Subabul Leucaene Leucocephala and Concentrates In Goats(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1995) Nayeem, Md.; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASSubabul (Leucaena leucocephala) leaves are good top feed resource to livestock especially goats. However, there have been reports of occasional ill effects of feeding subabul in livestock due to its mimosine content which acts as an anti-metabolite inhibiting the utilization of tyrosine needed for the formation of hair and wool (Johnes 1979).ArticleItem Open Access Correlation Estimates for Plasma Alkaline Phosphatase Level at Different Ages to Economic Traits in Meyer Strain White Leghorn Chicks(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1980) Rao, R. Govinda; Venkatayan, S.; Venkatesan, R.; Kothandaraman, P.; TANUVASFalconer (1964) indicated that indirect selection is not superior to direct selection unless the secondary character has substantially higher heritability than the primary character with high genetic correlation.ArticleItem Open Access Correlations Of Progesterone Profiles In Milk and Blood Of Cows(Indian Veterinary Association, 1990-01) Chandrasekaran, S. Kannan; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASFoxe (1979) reported that estimation of progesterone in milk to assess reproductive in cattle was more advantageous than that in blood.Book chapterItem Open Access Digestive Physiology of Ruminants(TANUVAS, 1990) Rao, R. GovindaArticleItem Open Access Effect of Age, Sex and Testosterone on Plasma Alkaline Phosphatase in Poultry(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1980) Rao, R. Govinda; Venkatayan, S.; Kothandaraman, P.; TANUVASThe plasma alkaline phosphatase activity decreases as age advances in both sexes in poultry.ArticleItem Open Access Effect of Central Administration of Neurotransmitter Blockers on Feed Intake(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1991-07) Gopalan, S.; Rao, R. Govinda; Jayasundar, S.; TANUVASThe majority of drugs that influence feed intake apparently act centrally by influencing various components involved in the neural regulation of appetite. The hypothalamus plays an essential role in energy and water homeostasis.ThesisItem Open Access Effect of Force Molting on Certain Blood Constituents in Poultry - Part II(Madras Veterinary College, Chennai, 1984) Thangavel, A.; TANUVAS; Rao, R. Govinda; Thiagarajan, R.; Venkatesan, R.ArticleItem Open Access Effect of Peripheral Administration of Nicotine on Feed Intake(Indian Veterinary Association, 1991-03) Gopalan, S.; Rao, R. Govinda; Jayasundar, S.; TANUVASFeeding behaviour reflects multiplicity of inputs. An understanding of the process involved in appetite regulation and modification of feeding behaviour will facilitate the designing and development of more drugs with greater specificity, lesser toxicity and longer duration of action to treat appetite disorders.ArticleItem Open Access ELECTROCARDIOGRAM AND HAEMODYNAMIC CHANGES IN EXPERIMENTAL MYOCARDIAL INFARCTION IN DOGS(TANUVAS, 1996-10) Nayeem, Mohammed; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASMyocardial infarction in dogs is not a commonly reported clinical problem in canine practice. This may be more on account of non availability of facilities to practitioners for the diagnosis of this ailment as routinely available in human practice.ArticleItem Open Access The Electrolytes Pattern In The Rumen Fluid Of Cattle On Different Feeds(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1984) Rao, R. Govinda; Nayeem, Mohammed; Viswanathan, S.; TANUVASBurrows et al (1951) and Ueseka (1966) observed that sodium was slightly stimulatory to bacteria and increased the production of total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) and the latter, in addition, observed that dietary calcium showed a tendency to increase TVFA production. Since the TVFA production, growth and metabolic activity of rumen micro organism depend on the electrolyte concentration, a study was undertaken to estimate the level of different electrolytes in the rumen fluid in relation to volatile fatty acid production. will I\}&>)(,\1'anr.4.Ls AND METHODS were fed with rations having the folloArticleItem Open Access The Electrolytes Pattern in the Rumen Fluid of Cattle on Different Feeds(TANUVAS, 1984) Rao, R. Govinda; Nayeem, Mohammed; Viswanathan, S; TANUVASThe total volatile fatty acids and electrolytes sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus were determined in the rumen liquor at varying intervals after feeding with different types of feeds. There was no significant difference in the production of TVFA with the three types of feeds. The concentration of sodium was more in the rumen liquor in feed containing maize. The phosphorus and magnesium concentration were significantly higher in the ration containing maize than the other two feeds.ArticleItem Open Access Electrophysiology as a Basis for Animal Activity(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1992-05) Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASArticleItem Open Access Evaluation Of Enzyme Levels On Two Experimental Myocardial Infarctions In Dogs(TANUVAS, Chennai, 1995) Nayeem, Mohammed; Rao, R. Govinda; TANUVASAhmed er al (1976) proposed that the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction often depended on the demonstration of elevated plasma enzyme activity. Karmen et al (1954) and Dreyfus et al (1960) and Roberts et al (1974) pointed out that serum CPK determination were becoming increasingly important in the diagnosis and quantification of acute myocardial infarction.
