dc.description.abstractSugarcane press residue (SPR), a by-product of sugar industry is a potential source due to availability and unique nutrient composition. Though the chemical analysis of SPR reflects it as a good source of both organic and inorganic nutrients, yet the biological experiments revealed that the nutritive value of SPR is poor. To conclude, the possibility of inclusion of SPR as an unconventional feed resource in diets for non-ruminants particularly in poultry diets beyond 5% level, the minimum level that was tested appears to be remote. If the nutritional responses are looked beyond the usual criteria of weight gain in broilers and egg production in layers to parameters such as birds’ optimal health and consumers’ preference for lean meat, SPR appears to be a optional ingredient in poultry rations. However, since limited reports available on the utilization of SPR in both broilers and layers, it is rather inferred that some more research is required to confirm the present findings.en_US
