Abstract
Studies were determined to establish the reaction time and seminal characteristics
of Holstein Friesian bulls aged 2 to 4 years. The reaction time was recorded as 93.57 ±
2.51 seconds. The mean semen volume, mean sperm concentration, mean initial motility,
mean live sperm count, mean percentage of major sperm abnormalities, mean percentage
of minor sperm abnormalities and mean percentage of post thaw motility for HF bulls
was documented as 9.51 ± 0.58 ml, 801.27 ± 66.53 millions per ml, 75.61 ± 0.01 per
cent, 75.01 ± 0.09, 4.55 ± 0.58, 9.12 ± 0.28 and 53.05 ± 0.01, respectively.
Studies were also conducted to determine whether the administration of PGF2 ,
oxytocin and GnRH had any significant influence on the reaction time and seminal
characteristics of HF bulls. It was concluded that none of the drugs used had any
significant effect either on the reaction time or on the seminal characteristics of HF bulls
