dc.description.abstractIndia is the largest producer of milk in the world when it surpassed United States of America during the year 1999. Milk is the second largest agricultural commodity produced in India both in terms of quantity and value (India 2000 Year Book). Still, the country has great potential to further increases in milk production to meet domestic demands and to export to the neighboring countries. Some of the obstacles in optimum production of milk are animalâ s diseases, lack of knowledge of scientific animal husbandry practices among dairy farms and insufficient nutritional supply to the animals. Among the various diseases in cattle, mastitis is considered as a disease of great economic importance confronting the dairy industry
