Abstract
Shrimp farming is an emerging industry in tropical and subtropical regions around the world with current production estimated at 6.6 mmt. per year (FAO, 2010). Shrimp farming is an aquaculture business for the cultivation of marine shrimps for human consumption. Commercial shrimp farming has begun in the 1970s and production grew steadily to match the market demands of the United States. About 75% of cultured shrimp has been produced in Asia alone, with major contribution from China and Thailand. Although there are many species of shrimp and prawns are available, only those which are having commercial value are being cultivated. Shrimps belong to penaeids and genus Penaeus.
