Abstract
Livestock is an important segment of agricultural sector in India
and is kept mainly by the small landholders and the landless people that
constitute major bulk of the rural population. In India as well as in most
of the developing countries cereal and millet crop residues are the major
feed sources for dairy cattle. These crop residues are low in nitrogen as
well as energy content. The high fibre and lignin content in these crop
residues makes their intake and digestibility low.
