Abstract
India is endowed with a tremendous wealth of mega diversity in flora and fauna including wild animals. India harbours 60 per cent of the worldâ s wild tiger population, 50 per cent of Asiatic elephants, 80 per cent of the Great Indian one horned rhinoceros, entire population of Asiatic lions (WPSI, 2000), 1,228 species of birds including 65
endangered species, 372 species of mammals with 53 endangered species, 447 species of reptiles along with 22 endangered species, 2546 species of fishes and 57,245 species of insects (WII, 2003).
