dc.description.abstractThe present investigation entitled “Variability Assessment at Morphological and Molecular level in Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.)” was conducted with 25 genotypes (including National and State released varieties) during Kharif- 2012 at the Instructional Farm, College of Technology and Agricultural Engineering, Maharana Pratap University of Agricultural and Technology, Udaipur. The genotypes were planted in a randomized block design with three replications. The observations were recorded for 13 characters viz., days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of branches per plant, number of matured pods per plant, dry pod yield per plant, kernel yield per plant, 100-kernel weight, sound mature kernel, shelling out turn, biological yield per plant, harvest index and seed oil content on five randomly selected plants from each genotype under all replications for all the above characters except days to flowering and days to maturity which were recorded on plot basis and average value was subjected to analysis of variance, estimation of variability parameters, correlation. The, estimates of genotypic parameters revealed that differences between the estimates of GCV and PCV were found least for most of the characters. Higher estimates of GCV were observed for plant height, number of mature pods per plant, dry pods yield per plant, Kernel yield per plant, Biological yield per plant, 100 Kernel weight and oil content. Maximum heritability was found for 100 kernel weight followed by oil content and sound mature kernels. While, maximum genetic gain was observed for biological yield per plant followed by dry pods yield per plant and number of mature pods per plant. Association study revealed that dry pod yield per plant was positively and significantly correlated at both genotypic and phenotypic level with number of branches per plant, number of mature pods per plant and biological yield per plant. Kernel yield per plant was positively and significantly correlated at both genotypic and phenotypic level with number of branches per plant, number of mature pods per plant and biological yield per plant.
