dc.description.abstractThe present study on “Management of Major Sucking Insect Pests Infesting Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)” was carried out at Agronomy Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture and Technology, Udaipur during kharif, 2019. The population of aphids reached its peak during the 40th SMW (49.20 aphids/plant). The peak population of jassids (30.25 jassids/plant) and whiteflies (32.40 whiteflies/plant) was recorded during the 34th SMW and 31st SMW, respectively. The peak population of thrips (41.60 thrips/plant) was recorded during the 36th SMW. Whereas, the peak population of mealybugs (26.00 mealybugs/10 cm twig) was recorded during the 37th SMW. The correlation coefficient study reveals that the population of jassids, aphids, whiteflies, thrips and mealybugs was positively correlated with mean temperature, relative humidity and total average rainfall, and the population of these pests was found significantly positive with the relative humidity. The result of the bio-efficacy of newer insecticides against sucking insect pests showed that all the treatments were significantly superior over control. Three sprays of imidacloprid 17.8% SL@125 ml/ha were found most effective against jassids and aphids with the highest mean reduction found at 5DAS after all three sprays. It was followed by acetamiprid 20% SP @ 100 g/ha. After the first spray, pyriproxyfen 10% EC @ 600 ml/ha proved to be the most effective against whiteflies at 5 DAS; while, after the subsequent two sprays, buprofezin25 SC @ 1000 ml/ha caused maximum mean reduction of whitefly population at 5 DAS. Three sprays of thiamethoxam 25 WG @ 100 g a.i. ha-1was found most effective against thrips; while clothianidin 50% WDG @ 40 g/ha had the maximum mean reduction in the population of mealybugs over the rest of the treatments at 5 days after spray.en_US
