Abstract
A survey was undertaken for screening the
organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) residue in
eggs and meat samples collected from Namakkal (Tamil Nadu). Samples were analyzed
by thin layer chromatography and confirmed
by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.
Total endosulfan in egg (33.33 %) and broiler
meat (50%) were exceeded the MRL of Codex
alimentarius. Desi chicken adipose tissue had
high incidence (58.33 %) of endosulfan (28.57 i
2.85 ppb), but below the permissible MRL. DDT
was detected below MRL in meat. Collectively,
it suggested that the presence of OCPs residues,
though at low level, still continues to be a threat
for poultry products.
