Abstract
The study entitled “Market Potential for Organic Pesticide and Brand
Preference of Farmers in Jamnagar District” was under taken with the objectives to
study the socio-economic profile of farmers, measure the market potential for organic
pesticides, identify the factors influencing brand preference of farmers for organic
pesticides, find out the satisfaction level of farmers towards organic pesticides and
identify the constraints faced by farmers and dealers related to organic pesticides. Total
20 dealers and 120 farmers using organic pesticide were selected from Jamnagar
district. The analytical tools employed were tabular and graphical method, market
potential, factor analysis, Likert scale, Chi-square and Garrett’s ranking technique.
It was found that market potential for organic pesticide in Jamnagar district was
79747.386 liter. Market potential for organic pesticide was highest in cotton and
groundnut 40423.08 liter and 27760.09 liter respectively. Major factors are price, easy
and safe use, convenience and promotional attributes and other factors such as
longevity, packaging, outcome, experience and credit also having influence on brand
preference of farmers for organic pesticides. Farmers had medium level of satisfaction
toward organic pesticides. Significant association were observed in social participation
and satisfaction level of farmers. Major constraints faced by farmers were high price,
delayed result and poor quality. Major constraints faced by dealers were less demand
compares to synthetic pesticides, poor quality and low margin.
