Abstract
Livestock owners in India are mostly practicing free grazing system in animal husbandry. The inigated and rain fed lands are basically used for cultivating food and commercial crops. Use of land exclusively for fodder development is scanty. Farmers often face scarcity of fodder even to manage two to three animals. Growth of cities and towns, deforestation, constnjction of dams and extension of inigated lands have reduced the grazing area for livestock
