Goat production from centuries has been an integral component of farming system and a primary source of livelihood for the poor villagers. Poor people on zero input mostly rear goats in India. Majority of the worldâ s goat population is found in the small holder farming system where nutritional conditions are often sub-optimal (Sibanda et ah, 1999). The farmers maintain their flock on community grazing land by employing family labour and negligible marketed input/purchased input and marginal output (Chauhan and Moorti 1999).
