Different aspects of the disease were studied in detail in view of lack of information with ultimate aim to control this serious disease of cereal and the results are given in brief as under: Banded leaf and sheath blight disease of maize was found to be prevalent in both Kharif and Rabi maize and the organism isolated was identified as Rhizoctonia solani Kuhn f. sp. sasakii Exner. The organism affected all the aerial parts except tassel. The disease appeared as irregular round water soaked, straw coloured lesions showing enlarged and discoloured areas alternating with dark bands were oriented perpendicularly to the long axis of the leaves. The pathogen was readily isolated on potato dextrose agar and pathogenicity was proved
