Abstract In recent decades, the global economy has seen tremendous change. Today, women contribute significantly to big family purchases. They have a significant impact both inside and outside the home and offer a reliable and prospective market for a wide range of goods. This study primarily examined the purchasing habits of working and non-working women in relation to durable goods and expensive purchases, taking into account a variety of demographic parameters including age, education level, and family income. To determine if there was a difference in the roles performed by them toward important family purchases, the roles of working and nonworking women were compared. For this, 105 women customers from Shimla town (60 working and 45 non-working) were specifically chosen. The data for the study was analyzed using a variety of mathematical techniques, including the percentage , the arithmetic mean, and the standard deviation. According to the survey, working and non-working women both have a significant influence on their buy. The survey also showed that working women played a major part in high-value purchases whereas non-working women predominated in the total purchase of durable goods. The working women in the family should be more proactive in making different home decisions.
