dc.description.abstractTrigonellafoenum-graecum seed extract and paste of earthworm Eudriluseugeniae in paracetamol induced hepatotoxicity in rats. The effects of the test drugs were compared to the standard drug silymarin. Prior to the animal study, in vitro antioxidant capacity of the test drugs and the in silicobinding ability of the components of the test drugs with the enzyme CYP 2E1 were done. Albino rats of Wistar strain were utilized in the study. The test drugs (100 and 300 mg/kg b.wt) were administered for a period of seven days and then toxic dose of paracetamol (3g/kg b.wt) was administered on eighth day. One group was treated with the standard drug, silymarin at the dose rate of 150 mg/kg b.wt. All the rats were sacrificed on the ninth day. Serum analysis for liver function, estimation of enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidants of liver, CYP2E1 activity assay, Real time PCR for HemeOxygenase 1 (HO1) gene and histopathology of liver were carried out at the end of the study.en_US
