PERFORMANCE OF MADRAS RED LAMBS FED WITH COMPLETE RATIONS OF VARYING PROPORTION OF ROUGHAGE TO CONCENTRATE RATIOS

Abstract
An experiment was conducted to assess the growth performance and carcass traits of Madras red lambs under feedlot system with complete diet of three different roughage to concentrate ratios of 60:40 (High forage- HF), 50150 (medium forage MF), 40:60 (low forage - LF). Madras red lambs (24) weaned at the age of 2 months were randomly allotted to four groups of six each viz. HF group, MF group, LF group and control group (grazing with supple- mentation). Slaughter studies were conducted at the end of the experiment The lambs raised under low forage diet (LF) had significantly (P<0.0l) higher body weight and average daily gain than the other treatment groups.
