Abstract
The current research entitled “Screening for multiple disease resistance and genetic diversity studies in Indian mustard (Brassica junceaL. Czern. & Coss) in Indo Gangetic plains” was conducted using 85 diverse genotypes ofIndian mustardat the Agricultural Research Farm, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, during the Rabi season of 2022-2023, for screening of Alternaria leaf spot, Sclerotiniastem rot, and white rust which are major disease in Indian mustard and their genetic diversity studies. In the current studies, genotypesHUJM-08-12 and BPR 543-2 and Pusa Bahar showed both high yield and lower PDI forAlternaria leaf spot, genotypes PM-30, NDRE-4, NPJ-203, HUJM-10-06, and ABR-5 performed better for yield and resistant to Sclerotiniastem rot. For white rust HUJM-07-06, PM-30, BPR-543-4, HUJM-08-12, and NPJ-203 these genotypes showed lower PDI with better yield among all genotypes studied. In the molecular studies, 24 markers are used, Marker At5g41560 exhibited the highest PIC value followed by At2g23090 and At2g21620. For the validation of white rust resistance markers, similar results were obtained for markers At5g41940, and At2g36360 as in previous studies, which can validate them for white rust resistance, while for marker At5g41560, no distinct polymorphism has been obtained. The prominent genotypes have been sorted out based on the yield and their related attributes areHUJM-08-12, BPR-543-2, HUJM-08-64, DRMR-150-35, BPR-543-4, HYJM-07-06, PM-30, and Pusa Vijay, while genotypes with good yield and other yield attributes are, BPR-543-2 showed lower PDI for Alternaria leaf spot and white rust, HUJM-08-12 showed lower PDI for all three diseases, Alternaria leaf spot, Sclerotiniastem rot, and white rust. While NDRE-4 showed high mean performance for yield attributes with lower PDI for Sclerotiniastem rot and white rust, these lines can be used in the resistance breeding program as a parental line to develop climate resilience varieties having good yield performance and resistance to more than one disease.
