Abstract
An experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2022-23 at Oilseeds
Research Farm, Kalyanpur, Chandra Skekhar Azad University of Agriculture
and Technology, Kanpur to study the test weight, percentage of moisture,
dhal recovery, husk recovery, loss in processing, broken dhal, protein,
methionine, tryptophan. The test weight ranged from 73.85 to 120.74g.
Significantly highest test weight (120.74g) was observed in KA-17-1 and
lowest test weight (73.85g) in UPAS-120.The dahl recovery in whole grain in
certain genotypes/varieties of pigeon pea ranged from 68.15 to 77.56%.
Pigeon pea variety AMAR recorded maximum dhal recovery of 77.56% in
whole grain followed by NDA-1, KA-17-1, KA-12-1, TYPE-21, ICPL-15,
AZAD, UPAS-120, MANAK, and PUSA ARHAR-16. The minimum dahl
recovery (68.15%) was obtained in PUSA ARHAR-16. Certain
genotypes/varieties of pigeon pea showed variation in husk per-cent from
11.05 to 14.35%. The variety AMAR gave lowest mean value of husk than
the other genotypes/varieties of pigeon pea. Broken dhal recovery ranged
from 4.75 to 8.52% and highest percentage was obtained in case of MANAK,
whereas, the genotype/variety AMAR recorded lowest value for broken dhal
per-cent. The lowest per-cent loss was obtained in AMAR (6.64%) whereas
highest percent loss was recorded in pigeon pea genotype/variety PUSA
ARHAR-16 (9.62%).
Results revealed that the dhal protein content varied significantly
from 21.05-24.76 per-cent, methionine content varied from 0.643 to 1.034
mg/16gN and tryptophan content varied from 0.63 to 0.86 mg/16gN) in
certain genotypes/varieties of pigeon pea. Significantly highest protein
content (24.76%), methionine content (1.034mg/16gN) in dahl and
tryptophan content (0.86mg/16gN) was obtained in AMAR, respectively of
maximum dahl recovery, lowest husk percentage, protein and methionine
content in genotype/variety AMAR was superior most
