Abstract
The present investigation entitled “Studies on heterosis, combining ability, inheritance pattern and gene action for yield and yield contributing traits in mung bean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] under two environments” was undertaken to: 1) To work out genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance in per cent of mean, (2) to estimate general and specific combining ability variances and their effects, (3) to study the nature and magnitude of gene action for yield and its components, (4) to study nature and extent of heterosis in F1’s over better parent and standard varieties, (5) to estimate genetic associations and path coefficient analysis among traits. The present study was carried out during timely and late sown condition in kharif and summer seasons of 2019 & 2020 at Genetics and Plant Breeding Research Farm of Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology, Narendra Nagar (Kumarganj), Ayodhya. The experimental materials comprised of 26 genetically diverse varieties/strains and their 88 crosses. The 26 parents were involved in a crossing programme to develop a line × tester set (22 lines + 4 testers) during summer and kharif season of 2019. The experimental material was evaluated in two seasons under timely and late sown condition. The observations were recorded on seventeen characters. The high estimates of phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variability were for number of branches per plant, reducing sugar, chlorophyll, grain yield per plant and harvest index character under both timely and late sown condition kharif and summer season. However, 100-seed weight under both condition and reducing sugar and pods per plant under timely sown condition in summer season. Chlorophyll content, non reducing sugar, 100-seed weight and protein content under late sown condition in summer season.
