Abstract
The present study was undertaken to develop the pregnancy app content for Indian women. The main objectives of the study were to analyze various pregnancy apps, to assess needs of the pregnant women and then to develop app content for pregnant women. Two types of samples were studied i.e. Digital sample and Human sample. Digital sample of the study consisted of 40 pregnancy apps available for free download on Google play store. Human sample comprised of 50 mothers of 0-2 years old children from Hisar city of Haryana state. These women were approached at three hospitals of Hisar city i.e. Vimal Jain Hospital, Aadhar Hospital and Urban Health Centre (Azad Nagar). For data collection, separate self-structured schedules were prepared. Analysis of apps revealed that majority of the apps were in English language, non-interactive and had individual affiliation. More than half of the apps were multipurpose and were providing information through text, photos and charts. These apps had accurate app description and were found to be appropriate for the target user. Majority of the apps lacked information on various aspects of pregnancy. However, the provided information was found to be relevant and accurate. Results regarding need assessment of the pregnant women depicted that majority of the women felt a strong need of information on various aspects of pregnancy such as general knowledge about pregnancy; nutritional knowledge; physical and psychological health care knowledge; entertainment during pregnancy; clothing and other pregnancy products; delivery and postpartum care knowledge. All the respondents expressed need for a pregnancy app that provides information on all these aspects. On the basis of need assessment and expert suggestions, app content was developed for Indian women covering all these aspects of pregnancy.
