Abstract
Field experiments were conducted at AICRP-National Seed Project (Crops),
University of Agricultural Sciences, Gandhi Krishi Vignana Kendra, Bengaluru during
Kharif and Rabi season of 2018-19. Ten selected cultivars of soybean were planted in three
replications to evaluate their performance for yield and quality using a completely
randomized block design. The results showed significant difference among the cultivars
and planting seasons. The cultivar, DSb-21 recorded highest seed yield of 23.00 q ha-1 with
maximum plant height (40.66 cm), number of branches per plant (8.72), days to flower
initiation (45.53), days to maturity (89.33), hundred seed weight (11.27 g), pods per plant
(109.63), harvest index (0.54) and total dry matter (49.00) during Kharif 2018 season.
However, during Rabi 2018-19, cultivar JS-2069 had performed better among all the tested
entries with respect to seed yield and quality which was recorded the highest seed yield of
16.66 q ha-1, plant height (32.29 cm), number of branches (8.60), days to flower initiation
and maturity (47.00 and 88.00 respectively), hundred seed weight (10.12 g) and pods per
plant (95.65). Considering the yield and yield contributing characters of all the ten tested
entries in both the planting seasons, the overall performance of the cultivars was better in
Kharif 2018 season compared to Rabi 2018-19. Further, highest seed quality parameters
viz., seed germination (97.33 %), seedling vigour index I (3834), seedling vigour index II
(6508), protein (36.68%), and oil content (18.65 %) were observed in NRC-37 during
Kharif 2018, while higher values (97.33%, 3750, 6686, 38.24% and 18.20% respectively)
in JS-9560 during Rabi 2018-19.
