Abstract
The present study was conducted during the year 2016-18 in Bangalore Rural and
Kolar districts of Karnataka state. A total sample of 160 farmers comprising of 80
beneficiaries and 80 non beneficiaries were randomly selected from 16 villages of
Bangalore Rural and Kolar. Data was collected using structured pre-tested interview
schedule. The results of knowledge level of beneficiaries revealed that, about 77.50 per
cent was having high level of knowledge whereas, 62.50 per cent of the non-beneficiaries
had low level of knowledge. With respect to overall perception of beneficiaries revealed
that 71.25 per cent were having better perception whereas, 50.00 per cent of the nonbeneficiaries
had poor perception. The results of ‘t’ test indicates that the overall
knowledge and perception mean score of beneficiaries was 33.03 and 82.65 as compared
to non-beneficiaries, who got 21.40 and 59.90. The difference in mean value was
significant at one per cent level. This clearly indicates that beneficiaries had high impact
than non-beneficiaries. Major constraints faced by beneficiaries are lack of skilled
labourers and high cost of labour, lack of irrigation facilities and lack of knowledge about
fluctuating price and market information. Whereas major constraints faced by nonbeneficiaries
are lack of information and knowledge regarding different farming system,
lack of irrigation facilities and political influence in distribution of inputs. The major
suggestions of beneficiaries are provision of labour saving technology at manageable
cost, should provide live demonstrations on IFS to increase the self confidence and
interest of farmers and should provide effective marketing facilities at village or local
level. Whereas the major suggestions of non-beneficiaries are timely sanctioning of high
quality of agricultural inputs and implements through subsidised prices, provision for
irrigation facility, water harvesting technology and moisture conservation in field were
the important suggestions to overcome the constraints.
