Abstract
ABSTRACT The present investigation entitled “Response of coloured capsicum to irrigation, fertigation and organic formulation under protected conditions” was laid out in a CRBD with three replications in a naturally ventilated polyhouse of an area of 200m2 at the Experimental Research Farm of Precision Farming Development Center, Department of Soil Science and Water Management of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan. Seeds of variety Orobelle (coloured capsicum) were planted in March in plug trays and transplanted in UV stabilized polybags during April, in the year 2019 under polyhouse conditions. Soilless medium comprising of sand + vermicompost (70:30 w/w) was used. The treatments comprised of two levels of irrigation (D) viz. D1: Irrigation at 100% ETc, D2: Irrigation at 80% ETc and three levels of fertigation (F) viz. F1: Fertigation at 100% RDF, F2: Fertigation at 75% RDF and F3: Fertigation at 125% RDF along with two levels of jeevamrut (J) viz. J1: Jeevamrut application at 5% foliar spray and J0: Non application of jeevamrut. The observations were recorded on crop parameters like plant height (cm), days to 50% flowering, fruit length (cm), fruit breadth (cm), fruit weight (g), number of fruits per plant, harvest duration (days), fruit yield per plant (kg), plant biomass (q/ha), and soil parameters like available NPK (kg/ha), nutrient content (%), nutrient uptake (kg/ha), fertilizer use efficiency (kg/kg nutrient). The analysis of variance showed significant differences among the treatment combinations for majority of characters studied. The best treatment recorded 39.26, 60.06, 185.39, 72.70, 179.74 and 76.96% increase in plant height, no. of fruits, fruit yield, N, P and K uptake, respectively as compared to lowest yielding treatment. The B:C ratio was observed to be 2.55:1 under best treatment. From the present investigation it can be concluded that the treatment combination D2F3J1 having irrigation at 80% crop evapotranspiration (ETc), fertigation at 125% recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) along with foliar application of jeevamrut is best suited for coloured capsicum production under protected conditions.
