Abstract
Wireless sensor network is a willingly fast evolving area of research as it includes large number
of applications for various domestic and mission critical tasks and the deployment of WSN is not
so expensive to set up. Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have attracted a wide range of
disciplines where close interactions with the physical world are essential. The distributed sensing
capabilities and the ease of deployment provided by a wireless communication paradigm make
WSNs an important component of our daily lives. Wireless sensor network have some limitations
like energy consumption, delay, Transmission range, throughput etc. The computation as well as
the communication processes within a node consumes energy. The sensor capabilities of the
sensor nodes are extremely affected by the energy limitation. Transmission range is also one of
the major issue of wireless sensor network. There is also problem of delay during transmission of
data from source to destination. Through this thesis, various aspects and some features of WSN
are going to be discussed which will resolve few of the limitations of the WSN. It is a great
challenge for the real-time and reliability requirements. Hence efficient energy consumption
techniques are required. The thesis presents comparison of Single hop Multi-hop routing protocol
and analyzing them in terms of parameters like energy consumption, delay etc. Various existing
routing approaches have been shown in the thesis, that some of them are efficient in controlling
the energy consumption but at the same time delay is high and in some of transmission range is an
issue, in single hop the distance between source to sink is large so energy requirement is more and
also packet can also be lost while travelling over longer distance.
By studying these all researchers thoroughly, the thesis proposes a modified multi-hop routing
protocol based on WSN and IoT. In which transmission range is the main issue to resolve. By
using multi-hop techniques, transmission range can be increased. Along with transmission range
this thesis also focuses on the parameters like energy consumption, delay. After analyzing the
parameters the data will be send to cloud with the help of internet. The result part of this
approach is demonstrated using SenseNuts platform, it is hardware-software platform, which
consists of GUI and various sensor nodes, radio and gateway modules, in which parameters will
be verified by comparing with existing techniques i.e. MBR, LBR, AODV. By using modified
approach we will improve the parameters. The data sending on cloud will done using Thingspeak
software with the help of Wi-Fi module.
