Abstract
In the present study, efficacy of cadmium against Fusarium oxysporum in Grand Nain variety of banana was checked under in vitro conditions by optimising cadmium concentration. 100ppm and 120ppm cadmium concentration was found to be effective. Cadmium treatment was given to banana plant grown in- vitro for 8 days and 15 days, after 8 days and 15 days some plants were treated with Fusarium oxysporum followed by recovery. All the cadmium treated and recovered plants were hardened and growth of the plants were checked with contrast to control. The effect of cadmium was studied with biochemical analysis of anthocyanin, proline content, antioxidative enzyme assay and lipid peroxidation, molecular analysis of total protein content in contrast to control was measured. Anthocyanin , proline, antioxidant and MDA content of treated as well as recovered plant was measured in control as well as samples. Anthocyanin, proline, antioxidant and MDA content was found to be increased with the increase in cadmium concentration as well as with increase in duration of treatments as compared to control. However in case of recovery the anthocyanin, proline, antioxidant and MDA content was found to be decreased as compared to the treatments that were given before transferring to recovery stage. However insignificant change in protein bands was observed. This increase was related as a defence mechanism to cope up the cadmium induced stress condition by different mechanism like osmoregulation, antioxidant action, etc.
