Abstract
Infectious bursal disease (IBD), an eco- nomically important infectiousviral disease of poultry, is caused by Infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV). Emergence of very virulent IBDV (wIBDV) strains in different parts of theworld including India is demanding furtherresearch efforts in understanding the added complexity of the disease processand the means to diagnose and control it.The IBDV genome is divided into segments A and B, segment A is about 3.4 kb and B is about 2.8 kb.Segment B of the bisegmented, double stranded RNA genome of IBDV encodes the viral protein VP1. This has been presumed to represent the RNA dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) as it contains motifs that are typical for the RdRp of positive stand RNA viruses.
