Abstract
India is the land of spices. It has a unique position in the global spice scenario as
the largest producer, consumer and exporter of seed spices. Coriander is an
important condiment and most valued spice grown in India. Rajasthan state alone
contributes around 57 per cent area and 60 per cent of the production of the
country. Coriander crop in Rajasthan is grown mainly in the Kota region. It covers
95 per cent in area and contributes 98 per cent production.
Although coriander is an important and highly paying crop, it is considered to
be a highly risky crop and many a time farmers do not get half yield of coriander crop.
To save the farmers from complete crop failure situations, they should be motivated to
acquire more knowledge especially about plant protection measures and adopt
recommended package of practices for coriander cultivation.
Coriander crop is mostly affected by several impediments and scientists have
suggested their control measures. There is a wide scope to improve and increase
the coriander production and productivity by enhancing the knowledge and
adoption of recommended coriander cultivation technology among the farmers.
Efforts should be made to overcome the constraints for speedy adoption of
recommended cultivation practices of coriander. The suggestions received from
coriander cultivators, field functionaries and research scientist may help in
developing appropriate extension and research strategies to minimize the risk,
improve crop productivity and economic status of the farmers.
Keeping in view the narrated factual position; the present study entitled
“Knowledge and adoption of recommended coriander cultivation technology
among the farmers of Atru tehsil in the Baran district of Rajasthan” was
undertaken with the following specific objectives:
