Abstract
A field experiment entitled, “Effect of plant growth regulators on growth, flowering and
yield of Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium cv. Nilima Ram)” was conducted at
Horticulture Farm, RCA, Udaipur in July 2002 to January 2003. There were seventeen
treatments, viz., four concentration of each of GA3 (50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm), NAA (50, 100,
150 and 200 ppm), Ethrel (750, 1000, 1250 and 1500 ppm) and B-Nine (1000, 1500, 2000 and
2500 ppm) including a absolute control and each treatment replicated three times in Randomized
Block Design.
On the basis of present investigation it is observed that application of GA3 at different
concentrations significantly improve the vegetative characters of chrysanthemum .GA3 at 200
ppm recorded highest plant height at 45 DAT (24.02 cm), 90 DAT (67.02 cm) and at harvest
(72.24 cm); plant spread at 45 DAT (5.31 cm), 90 DAT (13.10 cm) and at harvest (25.05 cm);
stem diameter at 45 DAT (6.02 mm), 90 DAT (7.36 mm) and at harvest (9.35 mm) and number of
branches per plant at 45 DAT (7.61), 90 DAT (15.35) and at harvest (23.67).
The floral characteristics of the Chrysanthemum were also significantly improved by the
application of GA3 at different concentrations. B-nine at 2500 ppm recorded highest days to open
first flower (102.23 days). Whereas application of 1500 ppm Ethrel recoded least duration of
flowering (38.93 days). NAA at 50 ppm (5.86 cm) recorded significantly higher diameter of
flower as compared to absolute control. GA3 at 200 ppm recorded highest number of flowers per
plant (44.94) as compared to absolute control. Highest yield of Chrysanthemum was recorded
under application of 200 ppm of GA3 (14.23 t ha-1) and was followed by 150, 100 and 50 ppm of
GA3 and 2500 ppm of B-nine.
Highest net return was obtained by the application of GA3 at 100 ppm (Rs.69,252 ) and
followed by GA3 at 150 ppm (Rs.68,752). In case of CBR (Cost Benefit Ratio) NAA at 100 ppm
recorded highest CBR of 1 : 1.696 followed by application of 150 ppm of NAA (1 : 1.546), 50
ppm of NAA (1 : 1.458) and 50 ppm of GA3 (1 : 1.415).
