Abstract
The investigation on, “Relative efficacy of insecticides against maize stem borer, Chilopartellus (Swinhoe)”was carried out at the Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur during kharif, 2012. Among different insecticides, spray of chlorfluazuron 5.4 ECat 1500 ml/ha at 14 days after germinationwas found most effective against maize stem borer, C. partelluswhich recorded minimum LIR of 3.33, minimum6.67 per cent plant showing dead heart formationand highest grain yield of 93.23 g/plant and 51.80 q/ha. It was found significantly superior to all other treatments. Flubendiamide 480 SC at 150 ml/ha and novaluron 10 EC at 750 ml/ha were found next in order of effectiveness against maize stem borer, whereas, quinalphos 25 EC at 1000 ml/ha as theleast effective interm of maximum LIR of 5.13, maximum 23.33 per cent plant showing dead hearts and lowest grain yield of 69.50 g/Plant and 51.80 q/ha. No significant difference was found in the population of natural enemies among different treatments including control. Effect of insecticides on the parasitization of C. partellusrevealed that spinosad 45 SC at 200 ml/ha and flubendiamide 480 SC at 150 ml/ha with mean parasitisation of 54.21 and 52.39, were found relatively safe toCotesiaflavipesCameron, and were at par to each other, While, profenophos 50 ECat 2000 ml/ha andquinalphos 25 EC at 1000 ml/hawere relatively more toxic to C. flavipes, with 36.26 and 39.12 per cent, respectively. The study onrelative damage potential of maize stem borer, C. partellusrevealed that no significant difference was recorded in LIR, plant heights, mean plant showing dead hearts (%) and grain yield (g/plant)in the plants infested by releasing the larvae reared on natural host or on artificial diet.
