Abstract
A field experiment entitled "Effect of pinching and plant bioregulators on growth and yield of marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) cv. Pusa Basanti Gainda" was conducted at the Instructional Farm, Department of Floriculture and Landscaping, College of Horticulture and Forestry, Jhalarapatan, Jhalawar during the rabi season (October 2009 to March 2010). Nine sub treatments under both pinched and unpinched main treatments consisting of one control treatment and eight levels of plant bioregulators (viz. four levels of each ethrel and paclobutrazol @ 100, 200, 300 and 400 ppm) were laid out in a Split Plot Design with three replications. The pinching treatment was done at 45 days after transplanting and plant bioregulators were sprayed after one day of pinching. The results of the present investigation depicted that pinching treatment significantly increased the number of flowers per plant (92.04) and flower yield per plant(501.27 g), number of flowers per plot (1472.64), flower yield per plot (8.020 kg) and estimated flower yield per hectare (115.48 q). Similarly, ethrel 100 ppm recorded the tallest plants (78.54 cm) and the longest duration of flowering (90.19 days), highest number of flowers per plant (86.45) and per plot (1383.28) along with the highest flower yield per plant (519.72 g) and flower yield per plot (8.315 kg). Amongst all the treatments, paclobutrazol 100 ppm recorded the maximum estimated flower yield (145.48 q) per hectare with the minimum days to 50 per cent flowering (52.94 days) and the longest duration of flowering (92.54 days) along with the highest B:C ratio (2.96:1).
