Abstract
To study the genetic analysis of nitrogen fixation and grain yield in black gram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) an experiment was conducted during kharif 2000 and kharif 2001 at Instructional Farm, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur (Rajasthan). The six generation viz., P1, P2, F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 of 10 crosses between ten parents viz., Dungla, T-9, RBU-28, RBU-38, TPU-4, M-273, RUD-79, RUD-59, BGU-102 and BGU-54 were grown in three replications following layout of compact family block design. Observations were recorded on 5 plants in P1, P2 and F1 and 20 plants in F2, BC1 and BC2 generation in both the environments. For destructible sampling observation were recorded on five plants only. Heterosis, inbreeding depression and generation mean analysis for all the 10 crosses were carried out. Significant positive heterobeltiosis was observed in RUD-79 x RUD-59 for nitrogen content in straw (E1), plant fresh weight (E1) and leghamoglobin (E2). In TPU-4 x M-273 heterobeltiosis was significant for plant fresh weight and plant dry weight in E1. Cross RUD-59 x BGU-102 exhibited heterobeltiosis in E2 for carbohydrate content and leghamoglobin. Inbreeding depression was non significant in all these crosses and additive-dominance model was adequate. In addition to heterobeltiosis for plant fresh weight and carbohydrate content the crosses TPU-4 x M-273 and RUD-79 x RUD-59 in E1 and Dungla x T-9 and RUD-59 x BGU-102 in E2 environment exhibited significant dominance effects for both the characters. As there was no inbreeding depression therefore heterosis was on account of disperse dominance. In this situation selection may be exercise for transgressive segregants in later filial generations to improve plant fresh weight and carbohydrate using above crosses in the respective environments.
