Studies on micronutrients in cross- bred cattle in around Industrial belt of Ranchi
(Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, 2000) Kamelsh Kumar; S.Hoque
Studies on micronutrients in crossbred cattle in and around industrial belt of Ranchi have been conducted in the Department of Medicine from 1997 to 1999 Heavy milching cows are prone to metabolic and deficiency diseases because there is continuous drainage of nutrients through milk and its excessive requirements for maintaining pregnancy. The mineral mixture available in the local market are not fulfilling the requirement of copper, iron, zinc and manganese as they are consisting very low concentration of micronutrients specially copper, iron, zinc and manganese. As a result the deficiency disease due to deficiency of micronutrients is widely prevented in cross-bred cattle. In order to compare the findings with the clinical cases the level. of copper, iron, zinc and manganese in healthy cattle in different age groups was also estimated. 1) The normal level of serum copper in crossbred cattle of 0 to 6 (group I), 6 to 12 (group II), 12 to 24 months (group III) and 24 months onwards (group IV) were recorded 1.11 0.05, 1.28 0.03, 1.39 ± 0.02 and 1.34 0.03 ppm respectively. The highest value was observed in the age group of 12 to 24 months. The effect of age on serum copper level was found to be highly significant (P <0.01). 2) The normal level of serum iron in above age groups were observed 2.19 ±0.15, 2.56 ± 0.16, 3.05 ± 0.11 and 3.30 ±0.03 ppm respectively.

Studies on Gastroenteritis in Pups with Special Reference to Canine Parvoviral Infection
(Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, 1999) Tayyaba Arfa; S.Haque
The study on gastroenteritis in pups was conducted with special reference to parvoviral infection in the department of Medicine, Ranchi Veterinary College, Ranchi from May, 1998 to August 1999. The salient features of investigation were summarized as follows: Studies were conducted to confirm the existence of CPV infections among dogs in Ranchi by Agar Gel Immuno-Diffusion Test (AGIDT). Experimental studies were made to observe the symptoms and to record the hematological, biochemical and histopathological changes in CPV infected pups. Altogether 127 dogs of different breeds such as German Shepherd (52), Pomeranian (30); Doberman Pinscher (16); Labrador (4), Dachshund (8); Great-Dane (2); Dalmatian (5); German Spitz (2); others (8) including cross bred, St. Bernard, Rottweiler, showing the symptoms of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis were tested by AGIDT and 67 (52.76 %) animals were found positive for canine parvovirus infection, 38 (29.92 %) cases of gastroenteritis were due to different parasites and 22 (17.32 %) were due to bacterial infection. The disease occurred in almost all breeds of dog and no variation was observed in respect of sex. However it was observed that in Pomeranian the disease was very severe. Majority of cases occurred in young dogs below six months of age. However adult dogs were also affected with this disease. In the present study incidence of disease was maximum in winter and lowest in summer.

Management of Anaemia during treatment of Theileria infection in cattle
(Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, 1999) Prabhat kumar Singh; D.K.Thakur
The work on "management of anemia during treatment of theileria infection in cattle" was carried out in Dept. of Veterinary Medicine, Ranchi Veterinary College. (BAU), Kanke, for a period of two years from 1997 to 1999. A total of 263 febrile animals were examined, out of which 64 animals (24.33%) were found positive for theileria infection. In present observation the maximum age of positive animals was 6 years and minimum age of positive calf was 13 days. There was progressive increase in the incidence of tropical bovine theileriasis with the increase of age, the highest incidence was in the age group of 3 yrs and above (32.19%). During investigation it was observed that the maximum incidence of disease was in July (41.6%) and lowest in the month of January and May (0%). In general the disease was seen in June to November. There was distinct decrease of hemoglobin, packed cell volume. T.L.C., T.E.C. and D.L.C. due to theileria infection of varying degree but after treatment hemoglobin, packed cell volume. T.L.C., T.E.C. and D.L.C. reached towards normal value. Clinical symptoms observed in theileria cases were continuous fever. In some cases intermittent fever, enlarged superficial lymph node, jaundice, reduced milk yield, anaemia, accelerated pulse rate and respiration. All theileria positive cases were treated with specific treatment "Butalex" (Buparvaquone) by intramuscular route (Single dose) at the dose rate of 2.5 mg/kg body weight, and to overcome anemic condition, out of three regimen. of treatment. Imferon + Liv. ext. with B. Complex treatment was found. Satisfactory to overcome anemic condition. In severe cases of anaemia blood transfusion was the only way to save the life of animal.

Dermatomycosis in Canine and its Therapy
(Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, 1999) Vijayant Kumar; D.k. Thakur
The causative agents of canine dermatomycoses are commonly M. gypseum, M. canis, T. rubrum and T. mentagrophytes. Specific diagnosis of different types of ringworm in dogs is possible if cultural examination of skin scrapings are undertaken appart from studying clinical signs and histopathological observations. Younger dogs are more susceptible to dematomycoses compared with adults ones. Occurance of ringworm in dogs has seasonal variations being more in summer and less in winter. Charmaid one cap. / 10 Kg body weight and Newcharm oint. twice daily for five days followed by once daily where highly effective against dematomycoses in affected dogs.

Some Aspect of Mastitis in Buffaloes
(Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, 1987) Praveen kumar; Dr. A.K.Sinha
Hazarduous effect of mastitis on the socio-economic status of the farmers through the loss of milk and health of the animals leading to their culling and sacrifice is well established. With a view to asses the incidence and prevalence of mastitis in buffaloes in and around Ranchi in different farms with respect of daily milk yield, month of lactation, parity, types of infection and quarterwise infection by different indirect tests, the present investigation work was undertaken. To study these aspects of mastitis in buffaloes one organised farm, three unorganised farms and several private owners comprising the mixed group in and around Ranchi were taken for this study. Out of 259 milch animals 112 buffaloes were examined for incidence and prevalence of mastitis by indirect tests viz.trypsin inhibitor test, modified California mastitis test and bromothymol blue indicator card test and clinical observations were carried out to detect clinical, subclinical and chronic mastitis in these animals. To find out the causative organisms of mastitis and for their cure; culture, isolation, identification, sensitivity to different drugs, biological test for confirmations and drug trials for their treatment with different drugs were carried out in 29 buffaloes who were found positive for mastitis. Comparison of indirect tests for its suitability in detecting mastitis and efficacy of treatment for selection of drugs and line of treatment were carried out to have a better result of the research,
