(UHF,NAUNI, 2019-07) KUMAR, AMIT; KUMAR, KRISHAN
ABSTRACT The study was conducted to identify different issues related to the production and marketing of apple in Kinnaur District. For the concerned study, twelve Villages of Pooh Block were purposively selected. A sample of 60 respondents was selected by using random sampling. A well-structured questionnaire was designed to collect data on various aspects of production and marketing of apple. The data analyzed with the help of SPSS software revealed that majority of the respondents were not able to achieve the actual value of the product because of inadequate market information available for apple growers. The study also revealed that respondents' were also facing the problem of transportation and storage of produce. Landholding has been found to be irrigated and Kuhl's has been found to be the major source of irrigation used by the sample farmers followed by tanks and other irrigation schemes.8 per cent of respondents give orchard to pre-harvesters and 12 per cent goes with post-harvest contractors. Availability of skilled labor problem was faced by the majority of the apple growers. Demonstration of grading standards and packaging techniques should be promoted and communicated among the growers. Pricing is the main motivating factor that affects the decision of farmers. Therefore pricing strategy should be communicated well before harvesting.
