Anand Agricultural University, Anand

Anand Agricultural University (AAU) was established in 2004 at Anand with the support of the Government of Gujarat, Act No.(Guj 5 of 2004) dated April 29, 2004. Caved out of the erstwhile Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), the dream institution of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Dr. K. M. Munshi, the AAU was set up to provide support to the farming community in three facets namely education, research and extension activities in Agriculture, Horticulture Engineering, product Processing and Home Science. At present there seven Colleges, seventeen Research Centers and six Extension Education Institute working in nine districts of Gujarat namely Ahmedabad, Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal, Vadodara, Mahisagar, Botad and Chhotaudepur AAU's activities have expanded to span newer commodity sectors such as soil health card, bio-diesel, medicinal plants apart from the mandatory ones like rice, maize, tobacco, vegetable crops, fruit crops, forage crops, animal breeding, nutrition and dairy products etc. the core of AAU's operating philosophy however, continues to create the partnership between the rural people and committed academic as the basic for sustainable rural development. In pursuing its various programmes AAU's overall mission is to promote sustainable growth and economic independence in rural society. AAU aims to do this through education, research and extension education. Thus, AAU works towards the empowerment of the farmers.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Effect of auxins and methods of stem cutting on propagation of seedless lemon (Citrus limon L.) under protected conditions” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif-2020. The treatments comprised two levels of stem cutting (C) viz., C1- Tip cutting, C2- Semi hardwood cutting, with seven levels of auxins (G) viz., G1-Control, G2- IBA 300 mg/l, G3- IBA 600 mg/l, G4- IBA 900 mg/l, G5- NAA 300 mg/l, G6- NAA 600 mg/l and G7- NAA 900 mg/l.

    An investigation entitled ““Effect of different media and number of incision on macro-propagation of banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) cv. Grand Naine” was conducted during the year October- 2020 to February- 2021 at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Treatments were comprised four levels of growing media (M) viz., M1- soil, M2 - sawdust, M3 - rice husk, M4 - coco peat + sand (1:1) with three levels of number of incision (I) viz., I1- 4, I2-6 and I3- 8. The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (Factorial) with twelve treatment combinations and repeated thrice.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Effect of different protected structures and cultivars on softwood grafting of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.)” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during March to May, 2021. Nine treatment combination comprising of three different protected structures (P) viz., P1- Naturally ventilated polyhouse, P2- Shade net house and P3- Open condition with three different cultivars (C) viz., C1- Balanagar, C2- Sindhan, C3- Gujarat Junagadh Custard apple-1. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with factorial concept (FCRD) with Nine treatment combination and repeated thrice.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Studies on genetic variability in jamun (Syzygium cumini Skeels)” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. The treatment comprised of twenty jamun genotypes labelled with the prefix AJS (Anand Jamun Selection) and two check varieties Goma Priyanka and Paras.     An investigation entitled “Effect of calcium and coating materials on quality and shelf life of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Allahabad Safeda under cold storage condition” was conducted during the Rabi-2020 at cold storage, Horticultural Research Farm and P. G. Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand, Gujarat. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with Factorial concept (FCRD) having twelve treatment combinations, comprising of different chemical concentration viz., CaCl2 1%, CaNO3 2% and No chemical and with different coating materials (Coconut oil, Arabic gum, Olive oil and No coating). The treatments were repeated thrice. Periodic observations on 4th, 8th, 12th, 16th, 20th, 24th and 28th day of storage periods were taken.

    The present investigation on “Effect of different coating materials on quality and shelf life of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Local” was carried out during November, 2019 under ambient room temperature at Post Graduate Laboratory, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Freshly harvested uniform sized custard apple fruits were selected, washed, cleaned and treated with different levels of Aloe vera gel (10 % and 20 %), Bee wax (1 % and 2 %), Gum arabic (5 % and 10 %), Chitosan (1 % and 2 %) and Calcium nitrate (1 % and 2 %). All the treated fruits were stored in well ventilated CFB boxes in laboratory. The experiment was framed in Completely Randomized Design and repeated thrice with eleven treatments. The fruits were subjected to various quantitative and qualitative analysis for alternate days in the storage period of fruits.

    The present investigation was carried out on “Effect of fruit bagging on quality and pest-disease occurrence of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Allahabad Safeda”at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during April for summer season and October for winter season during the year 2019. Both the experiments were laid out in Completely Randomized Design with three repetitions and eight treatments viz., Newspaper bag-(T1), Brown paper bag-(T2), Non-woven-(T3), Butter paper bag -(T4), Muslin cloth bag-(T5), Transparent plastic bag -(T6), Brown paper bag with polythene coating-(T7) and Control-(T8). Fruits were bagged at marble stage i.e. for summer season on 12thApril and for winter on 10thof October.

    An investigation entitled “Effect of growing media and gibberellic acid on seed vigour, growth and survival of acid lime (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) cv. Kagzi” was conducted during the year Kharif- 2019 at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Treatments were comprised five levels of growing media (M) viz.,M1- Soil + FYM (1:1), M2-Soil + Vermicompost (1:1) 1), M3- Soil + FYM + Vermiculite (1:1:1), M4- Soil + Vermicompost + Vermiculite (1:1:1) and M5-Soil + FYM + Vermicompost + Vermiculite (1:1:1:1) with four levels dipping of seeds of acid lime in gibberellic acid for 24 hrs before sowing in polythene bags viz.,G1- GA3@ 50 mg/l,G2- GA3@ 100 mg/l and G3- GA3@ 150 mg/l with G0- Control (Water). The experiment was laid out in a Completely Randomized Design (Factorial) with twenty treatment combinations and repeated thrice.

    A field experiment was conducted on “Effect of different sources of nitrogen on growth, yield and quality of custard apple (Annona squamosa L.) cv. Sindhan” at Horticultural Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand during Kharif-rabi season of the year 2019. The experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with 13 treatments viz., T1-100 % RDN from Urea, T2 - 75 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Vermicompost, T3 - 75 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Castor cake, T4 - 75 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Neem cake, T5 - 75 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Poultry manure, T6 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 50 % RDN from Vermicompost, T7 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 50 % RDN from Castor cake , T8 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 50 % RDN from Neem cake, T9 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 50 % RDN from Poultry manure, T10 - 50 % RDN from urea + 25 % RDN from Vermicompost + 10 ml Azotobacter, T11 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Castor cake + 10 ml Azotobacter, T12 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Neem cake + 10 ml Azotobacter and T13 - 50 % RDN from Urea + 25 % RDN from Poultry manures + 10 ml Azotobacter.
