The study entitled “Clinicopathological evaluation of inflammatory bowel disease and its management in dogs” was carried out to study the clinicopathological changes of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)in dogs, to assess the usefulness of endoscopy in the diagnosis of IBD and evaluating the therapeutic protocols in the management of IBD. Present study consisted of ten apparently healthy dogs and thirty three clinical cases. The parameters included in this study were clinical examination, haematology, serum biochemistry, faecal examination, radiography, ultrasonography, endoscopy, histopathology, PCR, flowcytometry and special diagnostic tests (serum CRP, cobalamin and folate).

(2018) Kishorbhai, Kasondra Arjun; Nagarajan, B; Jayathangaraj, MG; Ravi Latha, Bhaskaran; Johnkirubaharan, J; TANUVAS
The study was conducted at Small Animal Dermatology out patient unit of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital to study the incidence of parasitic and fungal dermatoses, to evaluate the efficacy of various diagnostic tests in parasitic and fungal dermatoses and to evaluate the efficacy of various therapeutic agents against Lynxacarus radovaskyi (Fur mite) andMicrosporum spp. dermatoses in cats. In this study a total of 303 cats with the history of dermatoses were subjected to detailed clinical examination and various fungal and parasitic diagnostictests.

CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL, ULTRASONOGRAPHIC EVALUATION AND THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT OF SUBACUTE RUMINAL ACIDOSIS (SARA) IN DAIRY CATTLE
(2018) Mohammed Ismail, AL; Kavitha, S; Nagarajan, B; Vairamuthu, S; TANUVAS
Subacute ruminal acidosis (SARA) is defined as periods of moderately depressed ruminal pH, is one of the most common chronic digestive disorders, especially in well-managed dairy herds. The study was conducted at Large Animal Medicine-Out patient Unit of Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital to document clinical, haemato-biochemical, rumen fluid, milk and ultrasonographic changes and to assess the efficacy of treatment protocols in the management of SARA in dairy cattle. In the study, dairy cows with the history of reduced dry matter intake, drop in milk yield and diarrhoea were subjected to detailed physical examination, haemato-biochemical, rumen fluid analysis, serum haptoglobin estimation and ultrasonographic evaluation. Twenty two cows were found to have SARA based on rumen liquor pH ranging from 5.4-6.0. Twenty cows were selected and randomly subjected for treatment trial with oral Sodium bicarbonate at the dose rate of 250gms/ cow/ day and Saccharomyces cerevisiae at the dose rate of 25×109 CFU/ cow/ day for seven consecutive days.

CLINICO PATHOLOGICAL CHANGES OF ACUTE PANCREATITIS IN DOGS
    (2018) Mahadimane, Abhilaasha C; Chandrasekaran, D; Kavitha, S; Vairamuthu, S; TANUVAS
The aim of the present study was to document the clinico pathological changes of acute pancreatitis in dogs and to compare various diagnostic modalities in the early diagnosis of acute pancreatitis in dogs. Suspected dogs with gastrointestinal disorders presented with clinical signs such as acute onset of vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain were screened for acute pancreatitis by hematology, serum biochemistry, coagulation profile, pancreatic enzymes and radiography. Forty suspected cases were referred for detailed ultrasonographic evaluation. Fourteen cases with typical ultrasonographic changes were subjected for SNAP cPL estimation. The present study was divided into two groups - Group I consisting of normal healthy dogs (Control) and Group II consisting of dogs with acute pancreatitis.

MOLECULAR DETECTION AND BUNDLE THERAPY IN THE CLINICAL MANAGEMENT OF SEPSIS IN DOGS
    (2018) Jasmin, R; Balagangatharathilagar, M; Vijayarani, K; Sumathi, D; TANUVAS
Sepsis is one of the leading causes of mortality in Intensive and Critical Care units. So the early identification and diagnosis of sepsis is essential because early treatment is associated with significant reduction in mortality in the studies reported from small animal and human patients. In this backdrop, this study on “Molecular detection and bundle therapy in the clinical management of sepsis in dogs” was conducted to document the various septic etiology, to compare various diagnostic tests in the early diagnosis of sepsis and to evaluate the Early Goal Directed Therapy (EGDT) bundle protocol in septic dogs.

The research work was carried out to study the incidence, clinical signs, haematobiochemical changes and ultrasonographic changes of liver in cows with fat cow syndrome. Fifteen apparently healthy cows were selected to obtain normal values of parameters under study. Twenty five cows with fat cow syndrome formed the clinical group and were subjected to detailed anamnesis, clinical examination, haematology, serum biochemistry, ultrasonographic evaluation, quantitative analysis of B-mode image, doppler ultrasonography and histopathological examination of liver. Incidence of fat cow syndrome in cows was 10.29 per cent among various metabolic diseases
