(Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, 2019) Singh, Shambhu; Dave, A. K.; Padhee, D.; Victor, V. M.
Now day’s scarcity of labour is creating problem during agricultural operation because in agriculture more labour is required. To reduce this problem a weeder cum sprayer was designed, developed in workshop of BRSMCAET & RS, Mungeli, IGKV, Raipur. The purpose of development was reducing the time and labour requirement by combining the weeding and spraying pesticides/ fertilizer operation. The developed weeder cum sprayer was operated by human power which required 0.079 hp power for operation. Weeder cum sprayer consist frame, sprayer, nozzle boom, wheel, transmission system and blade for weeding etc. for satisfactory operation. The main frame is mounted on the axle shaft with single traction wheel and carries above the spray tank and below weeder, pump integration, and a boom assembly of 0.9 m length with three sprayer nozzles. The rotary motion of the smaller sprocket then converted into the reciprocating motion by the single slider crank mechanism, which actuates the single acting reciprocating piston of pump installed in the tank pumping the chemical to the boom. And weeder also cut the weeds by shearing action. Over all dimension of weeder was 230+440+570 mm. The developed weeder was able to do the work both weeding and spraying operation separately and together. Performance of developed mono wheel operated weeder sprayer was evaluated in field of chickpea of size of 10x10 m2. During the field operation Soil condition of the field was observed by taking the observation of bulk density, moisture content and soil resistance was 12.63 %, 1.55 kg cm-3 and 1.96 N cm-2 respectively. In field condition speed of operation was observed 1.4 km.h-1for both spraying and weeding operation. During weeding operation width of work was 30cm i.e. spacing between row of chickpea and depth of cut was 3-5 cm. Weeding efficiency, plant damage percentage, field capacity and field efficiency were observed 89.104 %,2.77 %, 0.031 ha.h-1 and 65.54 % respectively. Sprayer boom consist 3 nozzles, distance between two nozzles was 30 cm so the width was calculated 90 cm. After testing developed weeder cum sprayer the sprayer discharge rate, application rate, pressure of nozzle, droplet size, spray pattern, field capacity and field efficiency were observed 0.536 l min-1, 638.09 l ha-1, 3-5 bar, 1-2 mm, 0.075 ha h-1 and 53.17% respectively.
