    Social media in agriculture is a new upcoming field focusing on the empowerment to farmers for agricultural information sharing and communication. Social media includes various tools that allow interactive means of communication among people and information exchange worldwide. Social media not only enables users to connect anytime and anywhere but also provides a platform for storing information. During a crisis such as natural disasters and disease out brakes, social media can be extensively used to communicate and coordinate with other stakeholders in authorities, organizations and systems, and farming communities. Social media has quickly become the wide-ranging way of broadcasting information in various types such as video, audio, text, photographs, documents, locations and different data in different extensions. Due to high affordability, social media has become the world’s common way of communication. The acceptance of social media has increased; thus, various applications, tools, platforms, functions, and features have been evaluated. Hence the social media has to be studied to generate information about possible use in agriculture extension. Agricultural technologies can be exploited more efficiently using social media to share accurate, timely, relevant information and services through user-friendly ways to the stakeholders for sustainable agriculture development.

    STUDIES ON ETIOLOGIES, HEMATO-BIOCHEMICAL CHANGES OF ANEMIA WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT OF REGENERATIVE ANEMIA IN DOGS

    The dog holds the distinction of being the first domesticated animal among the many species that have been domesticated. Many infectious and non-infectious diseases affect dogs, with anemia being one of the most common symptoms. in hematological analysis dogs having Hb value less than 12 g/dl, Total erythrocyte count (TEC) less than 5.5х106 /µl or Packed cell volume (PCV) less than 35 % considered as anemic. Anemia may occur as a result of various condition like secondary to loss of blood, digestive disorders, coagulation disorders, gastrointestinal parasitism, bleeding disorders, injury, urinary tract infections, immune mediated hemolytic anemia, nutritional deficiencies, red cell aplasia. Anemia can be categorized as regenerative or non-regenerative anemia based on the response of the bone marrow to reduced circulatory levels of RBC in the form of reticulocyte count.

    STUDIES ON THERAPEUTIC EFFICACY OF Boerhavia diffusa AND Bryophyllum calycinum ON ADENINE INDUCED CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN WISTAR RATS

    The present research work was conducted on 62 adult healthy male Wistar rats, (12-15 weeks of age) to study the therapeutic efficacy of plants Boerhavia diffusa (BD, roots) and Bryophyllum calycinum (BC, leaves) on adenine induced chronic kidney disease through evaluation of haemato-biochemical changes, urinalysis, ultrasonographic and histopathological changes. Rats were divided into 8 groups, viz., group-I (healthy control, n=6), group-II (adenine control, n=8), group-III (aqueous extract of BC. n=8), group-IV (alcoholic extract of BC, n=8), group-V (aqueous extract of BD, n=8), group-VI (alcoholic extract of BD, n=8), group-VII (biherbal alcoholic extract, 1:1.5, n=8), and group-VIII (biherbal alcoholic extract, 1:1.5, n=8).

    STUDIES ON EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN DOGS AND ITS THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT

    Kidney diseases are commonly encountered in companion animals, and traditionally diagnosed with serum creatinine concentration (Cr), blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and abnormal urinalysis findings. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a common cause of decreased quality of life in dogs and cats, as well as death. The present study was carried out for diagnosis and therapeutic management of CKD in dogs. The total number of dogs (n=18) were divided into 2 groups, viz., Group I (Healthy Group, n=6) and Group II (Therapeutic Group, n=12 CKD dogs); and the findings of clinical signs, haemato-biochemical profile and urine analysis were compared between two groups. Dogs of Group II suffering from CKD were then used for therapeutic trial.

    STUDIES ON ETIO-DIAGNOSIS AND THERAPEUTIC MANAGEMENT OF CANINE DEMODICOSIS WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ROLE OF INTERLEUKIN-10 IN CANINE GENERALIZED DEMODICOSIS

    Demodicosis, also named as demodectic mange, red mange or follicular mange can be defined as a common but exigent, inflammatory, non-contagious parasitic disease caused by overpopulation of the host-specific follicular mites of various Demodex species. Demodex canis is known to be the species of Demodex which causes most infestations in dogs. A total of 55 positive cases of generalized demodicosis were selected for the diagnostic efficacy of three techniques, hematological changes in comparison to healthy control (n=6), bacteriology of pyodemodecosis, therapeutic trial and interleutin 10 profile before and after therapy in selected cases. Canine generalized demodicosis was characterized as juvenile-onset and adult-onset with classical clinical manifestations.

INSTITUTE OF DISTANCE EDUCATION ANAND AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY ANAND-388001 ABSTRACT The Indian agriculture sector is in innovation from traditional to commercial agriculture. India is the country where the half (52 per cent) of the population depending on agriculture. Modern agricultural practises and the relationship with environmental depletion is creating a problem. Some of the developmental challenges facing the Indian agriculture sector are illiteracy, weak socio-economic circumstances, lack of technological skills and understanding, limited holdings of land, modernisation leading to barren land and disasters leading to rural poverty, weather-dependent farming systems, low per capita income, underdeveloped physical infrastructure and inefficient bureaucratic procedures associated with the comparatively high cost of agricultural production. Any countries success primarily depends on research and technology growth and its productive use. New technology covering numerous areas, such as plant defence methods including biological and organic methods, new crop varieties with the desired specific norm, are being established by state agricultural universities along with other research organisations. New technologies are being established at the organisation level, but due to the lack of diffusion, farmers do not benefit from these technologies. The Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd (GSFC) has regularly published Krishi Jivan Farm magazine (KJFM) in Gujarati and Hindi language.

    Most of the women perform various types of works for their livelihood, agriculture and allied is considered as biggest sector which is unorganized where large number of rural women actively participates in it. Rural women is able to manage multifaceted works, which include agriculture and its allied activities, house hold activities, caring for family members and maintaining all the household activities without any hassles. Numerous of these activities are not defined as “economically active employment” contributing to the GDP of nation even though they are indispensable part for the wellbeing of rural households. Even though their contribution is much their role is neglected. Hence, the present study was taken to know the facts, situations, constraints and suggestions to enhance the, “Participation of farmwomen in family welfare and agricultural development”.

    EVALUATION OF PROPHYLACTIC EFFICACY OF PLANTS Boerhavia diffusa AND Tribulus terrestris ON ADENINE INDUCED CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE IN RATS

    The present study was conducted to evaluate the prophylactic efficacy of plants Boerhavia diffusa and Tribulus terrestris on adenine induced chronic kidney disease on 30 adult healthy male Wistar rats (12-15 weeks of age). Rats were divided into 4 groups, viz., group-I (Healthy control), II (Adenine control), III (Aqueous biherbal extract of Boerhavia diffusa and Tribulus terrestris, 0.5:1), IV (Alcoholic biherbal extract of Boerhavia diffusa and Tribulus terrestris, 1:1). Group I had 6 rats, and groups II, III and IV had 8 rats each. All the rats were numbered group wise and individually. Group I served as healthy/normal control. Group II served as adenine control, wherein adenine chemical was given @ 200 mg/kg body weight. Groups III and IV served as prophylactic treatment groups, and were given aqueous and alcoholic biherbal extracts, respectively, along with adenine solution for 28 days.
