    Gross Anatomy of Thymus in Guinea Fowl (Numida meleagris)

    The thymus in guinea fowl was primary lymphoepithelial organ. The samples were collected from different age groups of birds ranging from day old to 9 months in both the sexes. The thymus gland in guinea fowl was consisted of two long chains located on either side of neck. The gross morphology of the thymus gland was studied for its weight, shape, colour and number of lobes. The thymus gland reached its maximum weight at the age of 5 months in both the sexes and it was completely involuted at the age 8 months in females and 9 months in males.
