Naka; TANUVAS; Nanjappan, K.; Selvaraj, P.; Thangamani, R.A study was carried out in broilers from day-old to 6 weeks of age to evaluate the effect of different levels of amla and vitamin C supplementation in corn-soya based diet (control group) on growth performance, plasma antioxidant status, corticosterone and glucose, serum total cholesterol, triglycerides, high density lipoproteins and thyroxine. Amla contained high amount of vitamin C (729.56 mg/100g in fresh pulp and 333.38 mg/100g in dried pulp). The addition of different levels of amla and vitamin C did not improve body weight but amla at 1 per cent level in feed reduced the feed consumption with better feed efficiency. Feeding of amla and vitamin C at various levels, did not produce any significant difference in plasma levels of glutathione peroxidase, reduced glutathione, superoxide dismutase whereas plasma malonaldehyde level was significantly reduced in the supplemented groups. The mean plasma corticosterone level was reduced after adreno corticotrophin injection. Plasma glucose, serum total cholesterol, serum high density lipoproteins, serum thyroxine level were not influenced by supplementing amla and vitamin C. Serum triglycerides was significantly (P<0.01) reduced in the treatment groups compared to control. It is concluded that supplementation of amla upto 2 per cent of diet and vitamin C did not improve body weight and feed efficiency but improved anti-oxidant status in broilers.OtherItem Open Access Anaplasmosis in a Cow - A Case StudyAnjusekar, C.; Selvaraj, P.; Suresh, R.V.; Mageshkrishna, M.; Chandrasekar, M.; TANUVASArticleItem Open Access Antibiogram Patterns Of Microbes Isolated From Otitis Externa of Dogs(TANUVAS, Chennai, 2010-05) Senthilkumar, K.; Selvaraj, P.; Vairamuthu, S.; Shammi, Mala; Kathiresan, D.; TANUVASGram positive bacteria -30%, Gram negative -43% bacteria ,both Gram positive and negative bacteria 20% and fungus-7% were isolated from otitis externa. Laboratory evaluation of this haemostatic process involves assessment of coagulation profile. The aim of this study was to estimate the reference range for prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT) in normal dogs. These determinations were made on 15 healthy male and female dogs from various breeds using a semiautomatic coagulometer using commercially available kits for human medicine. The range value for aPTT was 43.17±2.39 second and PT range value was 12.12±0.57 second.ArticleItem Open Access Atrial Arrhythmias in Dogs: Retrospective Analysis of 90 Cases(2017-08) Sivaprakasam, A.; Selvaraj, P.; Vairamuthu, S.; Nambi, A.P.; TANUVASOtherItem Open Access Atrial Fibrillation and Its Successful Cardioversion in a Doberman(TANUVAS, Chennai, 2012-07) Yadav, Jitendra Kumar; Sivaprakasam, A.; Selvaraj, P.; Jeyaraja, K.; Sumathi, D.; Nambi, A.P.; Prathaban, S.; TANUVASArticleItem Open Access Babesia Gibsoni – An Emerging Challenge In Canine Pediatric Practice In Chennai(TANUVAS, Chennai, 2010-05) Selvaraj, P.; Senthilkumar, K.; Vairamuthu, S.; Prathaban, S.; Srinivasan, S.R.; TANUVASCanine Babesiosis caused by Babesia gibsoni was more prevalent in canine pediatric population of Chennai. The challenge in feeding high producing dairy cows is to maximize dry matter intake and energy density of the ration, while maintaining the rumen health. The major risk to rumen health in current feeding practices in India is feeding too much readily digestible starch diet (e.g. finely ground grain) or too little good quality fiber (roughage). Owing to shrinking pasture land and water resources, green fodder or roughage feeding was very minimal today.
