OtherItem Open Access A Case Report: Amitraz Poisoning in Canines Treated with Homeopathic Medicine(TANUVAS, Chennai, 2014-12) Senthil, N.R.; Ramasamy, T.; Subapriya, S.; Vairamuthu, S.; Samrajyalakshmi, K.Ectoparasides of veterinary species mainly belongs to the classes Insecta and Arachinicla. lnsecta includes flies, lice and fleas, whereas arachinida contains ticks and mites. Ectoparasiticides are agents used to kill or eradicate animal parasites infesting the external surface of body. These are widely used in veterinary medicine to control severe parasitic infestations. It constitutes a diverse group of chemicals. These agents are among the most widely used and misused drugs in veterinary medicine.ThesisItem Open Access Effect of atorvastatin on myocardial inflammation and B-adrenocepior signalling in septic mice(IVRI, Izzat Nagar, 2013) Ramasamy, T.; Mishra, S. The swab samples taken from the dermatitis affected dogs brought to MVC teaching hospital were subjected to Antibiotic Sensitivity Test (ABST). A total of 21 dermatitis affected dogs were screened for the presence of Staphylococcus spp and Escherichia coli, by subjecting swab samples for culture by using MSA and EMB agar respectively. All the samples tested positive for Staphylococcus species while 50% of the samples tested positive for Escherichia coli. Subsequent ABST of the collected swab samples revealed resistance towards Penicillin-G (100%), Amoxicillin (91%) and Cefalothin (91%). Fluoroquinolones like Ciprofloxaxin and Levofloxacin showed 60% and 82% resistance respectively. Cephalosporins such as Cefotaxime and Ceftriaxone were moderately resistant (55% and 45.5% respectively) while Clindamycin and Vancomycin showed high level of resistance (82%) indicating rapid emergence of resistance among Staphylococcus spp and E. coli against a variety of antibiotics tested.OtherItem Open Access PATTERN OF ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANT MASTITIS IN A COW(TANUVAS, 2017-08) Athira, G.R.; Chandrasekaran, D.; Ramasamy, T.; TANUVASA 6 year old, HF cross breed cow was brought to the MVC Teaching Hospital with the history of swelling of udder and reduced milk yield. Clinical examination revealed reduced rumen motility, swelling of left forequarter, hot to touch, painful udder, milk was dirty white in colour and milk pH was 8.5. Milk was collected in a sterile culture tube for isolation, identification and bacteriological examination was carried out through growth on blood agar, gram’s staining. Staph. aureus isolates were identified asgram-positive cocci by Gram stain, positive catalase test, growth on mannitol saltagar. Staphylococci was subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility by disc diffusion method to the commonly used antibiotics. Minimum inhibitory concentration was done by modified resazurin assay microdilution technique. MIC (ugm/ml) was 125, 62.5, 125, 125, 65, 250, 0.22, 125, 250 and 250 for azathioprine, gentamicin, tetracycline, oxacillin, cefatoxime, eefuroxime, enrofloxacin, penicillin G, ampicillin and amoxicillin. The isolate was found sensitive for enrofloxacin, gentamicin and cefatoxime and resistant to penicillin G, amoxicillin, ampicillin, azathioprine, tetracycline and cefatoxime. Based on ABST & MIC, cow was treated with enrofloxacin @ 5 mg/kg bwti/m once daily and 100 mg intramammary for 7 days, NSAID meloxicam @ 0.5 mg/kg bwti/m once daily for 5 days, vitamin E @500 IU/day p/o and selenium @ 6 mg / kg p/o for 7 days. PCR amplification of resistance gene was identified. The cow showed clinical improvement after one week of treatment.OtherItem Open Access Processing Yield, Loss and Cut-up Parts of Arani (Desi) Ducks in Tamilnadu(TANUVAS, 2010) Sangilimadan, K.; Ramamurthy, N.; Rajini, R. The antibacterial drugs often find their way into the edible part of chicken, thus making it an issue of human food safety. Screening of chicken meat for antibacterials is thus an important part of ensuring food safety. Simple sensitive methods which could be adopted easily at laboratories of research institutes and testing centres are a need of the hour. In this study, one such assay method for the assay of oxytetracycline, a popularly used antibiotic in poultry farms, in broiler chicken meat standardized using High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is described. The HPLC assay method consisted of a C18column as the stationary phase and a mobile phase consisting of 0.2M oxalic acid: Acetonitrile: Methanol (3.5:1:1, v/v) pumped in with the flow rate of 1.5 ml/ min and assayed at 360nm for detection of OTC. The Limit of Detection and Limit of Quantification was 0.141 μg/ ml and 0.465 μg/ ml respectively. The total elution time was less than 4 minutes with a recovery rate of 105%. The results suggest that this method, with its high detection throughput and remarkable sensitivity and specificity, can be applied successfully for the field screening of oxytetracycline residue in chicken meat samples.ArticleItem Open Access ஆன்டிபயாடிக் என்னும் இரட்டை முளைக் கத்தி(TANUVAS, 2017-06) Elamaran, A.; Ramasamy, T.; Kumar, T.
