Abstract
A Labrador dog was brought to the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College and Research Institute, Orathanadu with a history of desquamation of skin around the anal region, diarrhoea and inappetance. Microscopical examination of faeces revealed characteristic elliptical to oval shaped operculated eggs of Diphyllobothrium latum. Hematological studies showed anaemia. Based on the presence of the characteristic eggs in faeces we confirmed the case as Diphyllobothriosis. Subsequently, the animal was treated with Praziquantel @ 5mg/ kg b.wt on the first day and repeated on 14th day.
